Mother and Child depict a silhouette of a young mother holding her infant child with a background of rainbow gradient flowers. This piece is fairly simplistic in nature but still conveys a very sweet, wholesome and powerful message. To me the piece shows the love a mother has for her children, no matter how who they are or who they will become in life. The love and support of a mother is very strong and is a very beautiful thing. I chose to make the mother and child into a silhouette instead of using an actual picture of a mother and child because it allows the viewer to see what ever race or ethnicity they want to see within the image. The rainbow colored flowers in the background are meant to not only bring vibrant colors in to the image, but to also help convey the message that a mothers love is a very beautiful thing and spans into every race of human there is. Flowers also represent growth which can be interpreted as “No matter how old a child becomes, there mother always is there to love and support them”. This is also a nod towards my mother and all the love and support she has given to me throughout my life. I would not be here without her.
